The National Institute of Pediatrics is one the main medical pediatric university affiliated referral institutions in Mexico . The scope of medical care is from 0 to 18 years old. Our institution is within the National Institutes of Health system. Therefore it is a non-profit-organization and federal government supported.
Our institution is located in the southern part of Mexico City . The main objective is the tertiary care of all medical problems in those children that do not have any medical coverage and therefore of the lowest socio-economic bracket, within the concept of gratuity. The patients are referred mostly from the Mexico City Metropolitan area, surrounding states and less frequently from other states.
The main objectives of our institution are:
• Assist in the consolidation of the major Mexican health problems of children without any medical coverage
• Offer to those sick children a High Standard quality of medicine under the evaluation and treatment of high ranking top medical specialists with the concept of multidisciplinary approach
• Develop and perform basic, clinical and translational research under a strict bioethical framework. All these concepts are develop with the approach of improving medical care through the publication at all levels of our results
• Create human resources in all fields of pediatric medicine, pediatric nursing and all other paramedical fields.
• Assistance and guidance in all the social aspects of our patient population.
Therefore the basic aim for this tertiary care institution are the academic pursuits, research and patient care.
After 30 years of continuous intensive and meticulous work in the medical pediatric field of Mexico , local and international recognition of our institution has been awarded by all venues of medical and social institutions.
Current infrastructure:
Our institution is made up of different buildings, one outpatient clinic, a second with a hospital building with 235 beds, a 24 hour-emergency room with 16 beds and an intensive care unit with 17 beds, as well a modern fully equipped laboratory unit and a imaging section with CT scan, MRI, routine radiology and nuclear medicine, all of them in the state of the art of modern medicine. A third building includes the housing for 214 residents and fellows. Another building houses the administration facility. A fifth 9 story building houses the research tower mostly intended for basic and translational research.
Our Goal:
To continue with the highest standard of childhood medical care, research and pediatric medical education in the nation. Our task is to persist the improving care of those children who are in need for highly tertiary specialized medical attention under a world class sophisticated medical institution. Finally our philosophy and ultimate goal is to offer to our nation healthy children for a better country.
